I got one a couple of years back, and it's really quite good. The software is fairly usable/user friendly, has a great factory library, and comes with some decent FX plugins; the hardware controller is well laid out, feels good to use, and doubles as a plain old MIDI controller (great for when you're using a drum rack or something similar).Using Maschine in its intended capacity (i.e. In its standalone software) seems to be geared more towards hip-hop/sample-heavy genres, but the piano roll is certainly passable, and you can simply run the software as a plugin in your DAW of choice.I got mine when it was a fair bit cheaper than it presently is, so YMMV with the value for money - if you feel it would help you to have more variety and expression in your drums and/or you just want a pad controller, then it's definitely worth considering. No experience with mk2, but my friend has had mk1 for years(have used it in his place and borrowed it also, and i have traktor f1 that i use purely as midi controller, not with traktor software). And well, if you like the workflow on maschine software, its a good product. Also one thing i should mention about it, is that the controller editor is really great, you can basically make any button or knob to send any messages(midi, mcu etc), and the controller is really easy to turn into midi mode.
This makes it double as a really good midi controller for other stuff as well. Like if you are using some daw along the maschine software, you can use it for both by switching between normal and midi mode. You should be aware that the additional sound libraries you can buy might cost you quite a bit if you want more than just one of them. The sound libraries are great, but as mentioned they can cost quite a bit extra. Personally i would rather make my own libraries or get some samples elsewhere than to invest hundreds on its sound libraries. The software is really nice, I wanna buy that one when I have some to spend lol, been addicted to that Radiant Horizon library, really nice drum sounds and some cool one shots, the only drag is the song sequencing which still is ass, locking you into patterns is a bit of a drag but you can work around it. I tried other software but I just love Maschine effects, Metaverb, the simple Compressor that everyone shits but I like, Beat Delay, few DAWs come close and most plugins that have that quality use way more CPU and are expensive.
